I’m sure we are all aware of all of the “New Year, New Me” resolutions posts that have already or will soon be hitting every corner of social media and real life. And while we’re sure they are made in good taste, we all know that resolutions SUCK! Every one of our friends, family members, and acquaintances will be working out, eating better, saving money, being more appreciative, motivating, helping, blah, blah, blah, BLAH! I mean, great, but how about let’s make reverse resolutions or New Year’s Experiences. I, personally, have never made resolutions because I don’t like setting myself up for failure, I mean, really? Me? Fail? Have you ever seen me fail? Hahaha I’m sooo kidding!!
So here’s what I like to do right when every new year starts. I like to set up a “New Year, New Things” or its original, more candid name “My New Year Bucket or F**k It” list. Just like a 365-day bucket list! Make a list of things you want to do in the new year. All kinds of things! Events to attend, adventures to go on, vacations to take, things you’ve never done, things you want to do more of and things maybe you’ve never thought you’d try, TRY THEM! Make that list! And then share it, again and again. Hold yourself to it and when you check one off the list, remember how it made you feel, what you thought of the experience, the good and the bad, and keep on keepin’ on! With that being said, here’s a few of my new things for the new year!
2018 Bucket (or F**k it) List
- 52 Hike Challenge: Its super cool, you can check out the details HERE
- Coach soccer
- Do as many fun runs and 5k/10k runs as possible
- skydive: I know, so typical
- See orcas in the open ocean
- Actually go on a family vacation: With 4 kids, its not that easy
- Step up my picture taking game by like 100x: Or just learn how to use a real camera
- Finish my chest tattoo: Because why the hell not up my badassery score
- Go on my first overnight backpacking trip on the PCT: with one or both of the older boys
- Win Mud Volleyball Tourney: Ha! I mean maybe if alcohol wasn’t involved, eh?
- Learn to speak a new language fluently
- Become a better housekeeper
- Cook more
Like I mentioned, this is just a few and new things will always be added as I find new fun stuff to do or try. The best thing about my list is that I feel it will make me a better person in general and have some really cool experiences to talk about and share with others. Who knows, maybe I’ll make some new friends while I’m at it and that would be the icing on the cake.
So whatever kind of person you are, be it the resolution-ist or not, have some fun in the new year. Let go, let be, and experience everything for exactly what it is.
