Keep in mind that Sevierville and the surrounding towns are a big tourist destination and will be extremely populated during holidays. It is the hometown of Dolly Parton, after all.

While the town may not have the hustle and bustle of its neighboring towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, it offers the perfect balance of peaceful mountain views, holiday cheer, and convenient access to the area’s best attractions.

Thanksgiving in Sevierville is the ideal time to get outside and enjoy the crisp fall air and stunning mountain scenery. Getting time outdoors thick in nature was the one thing we were VERY excited to do. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is just a short drive away, and offers countless opportunities for family hikes, scenic drives, and wildlife viewing. Some favorite outdoor activities include:

• Cade’s Cove: A picturesque, historic valley nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, offering visitors a glimpse into the past with preserved cabins, churches, and farms from the 1800s. Known for its stunning scenery and abundant wildlife, it’s a popular destination for hiking, wildlife viewing, and scenic drives.
• Laurel Falls Trail: A relatively easy hike that leads to the park’s most popular waterfall. It’s a great option for families with younger children or anyone looking for a short, scenic trail.
• Alum Cave Trail: For a slightly more challenging hike, this trail takes you to Alum Cave Bluffs, where you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
• Dome: If you’re hoping for a truly spectacular view, head to the highest point in the park. The observation tower at Clingmans Dome offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Smoky Mountains.

Experience the Holiday Lights in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg

Just a short drive from Sevierville, the nearby towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg go all out with their holiday displays. You can drive through twinkling light shows, enjoy festive parades, and even meet Santa Claus himself.

• Winterfest in Pigeon Forge: From early November to February, Pigeon Forge hosts its annual Winterfest, featuring over 5 million lights throughout the town. It’s a magical experience for families and a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.
• Gatlinburg’s Festival of Lights: Gatlinburg’s main strip is lined with millions of Christmas lights, creating a festive atmosphere perfect for an evening stroll. Don’t forget to check out the iconic Gatlinburg SkyLift Park, where you can ride the lift up to see the lights from above.

While we didn’t spend much time checking out any indoor activities, there are no shortage of attractions for indoor fun. If the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor activities or you’re simply looking to relax inside, Sevierville has plenty of indoor options to keep the family entertained:

Sevierville Community Center: This is a great spot for families looking to enjoy some recreational activities together. The community center often offers special holiday events, such as arts and crafts workshops and family movie nights.

Hollywood Wax Museum: For a fun, interactive experience, the Hollywood Wax Museum in Pigeon Forge is a hit with kids and adults alike. Pose with lifelike figures of your favorite celebrities, from superheroes to movie stars.

A lot of our time was spent hanging out inside the house with our family. However, a few other attractions that we experienced were Dollywood, mountain coasters, and Anakeesta. Dollywood was rightfully so VERY packed but the kids enjoyed all of the coasters. My absolute favorite were the mountain coasters, especially Rocky Top Mountain Coaster. Also, Anakeesta was high up on my favorites list as well. Spending time there with the whole family, my first time on a mountain lift, the tree bridges were all just such a great experience.
